NGFD will be celebrating our 100th Year Anniversary of serving the North Greece community on May 22, 1922. It was a humble beginning of merchants and farmers, carpenters and shopkeepers who made up an era that can never be seen again. Hard times such as the great depression years often forced members to reach into their own pockets to keep the fire company going. One hundred years of members doing their part, answering alarms, attending meetings and training sessions, have brought us to where we are today. Much behind the scene activity is required for an organization such as this to be successful.
We remember the families who made many sacrifices so members could serve. In our 100 year history, we honor all these people. They got up all hours of the night for calls, fought fires, rolled hose, filled-in at neighboring firehouses, cleaned apparatus, served on the fire police squad, missed meals and family events, held elected or appointed offices and positions, station standbys, writing reports, assisted with fire safety education, served on committees, came forward to join the Auxiliary, assisted with holiday events for the kids, worked with our Explorer Post 702, provided training and drill topics, attended member funerals, served as uniformed honor guards, provided refreshments and meals at the firehouse following major incidents, marched in parades, returned to the firehouse to sign the attendance sheet, attended work details, and collected and preserved our history.
Today our trained and certified professional staff of career and volunteer personnel provide the very best emergency services available anywhere, and we face the future with confidence.
