In the winter of 1944 North Greece Ladies Auxiliary was chartered with the State of New York. This was the effort of 23 ladies whose husbands were volunteer firemen with the North Greece Fire Department.
The object of the organization shall be to assist the North Greece Fire Department in every way possible and to the community. The ladies, in the beginning, raised money to purchase supplies and equipment for the department. They went to working fires with beverages and food.
Today with 23 active members, they serve dessert at monthly department meetings, serve beverages at working fires and meals for fill-in crews or firefighters if necessary. They cook and serve breakfast for the Breakfast with Santa and serve breakfast for the workers at the Easter Egg Hunt. The ladies do the Easter Egg baskets that are prizes for the hunt. We are available to other groups within the department to help them.
For community service, the Auxiliary ring bells for the Salvation Army kettles at Wal-Mart. You will see the Auxiliary at assisted living center doing crafts with the residents. You will find the auxiliary marching in the Barnard and Hilton parades.
In 1989, Auxiliary created the Charlie Werner/Sandy Miller scholarship fund for high school students whose parent is an active firefighter, auxiliary member, exempt member or member of Explorer Post.
In 2005 the Auxiliary changed their name from North Greece Ladies Auxiliary to North Greece Auxiliary so significant others of firefighters could join.
Auxiliary is open to new members.
